Yaffe
My name is Yaffe and I am 20 years old living in Lockerbie. My theme for this year is nature and combining it with elements of the human mentality, including mental health issues as well as emotions in general. I want to create my works through mixed media, incorporating elements of recycled materials and things from nature itself. Abstract work is a bit more unusual for me but I want to challenge myself this year to express myself in entirely new, different ways.
Using botanical subjects in my artwork has always been something that has come to me more naturally. Nature in itself is such a vast field of beauty to explore, and yet it is one of the many things people can often find themselves taking for granted. From the many seedlings we step over, the sounds of roaring winds at night and even the air we breathe in, nature has always been something prominent in all of our lives. I wanted to take the theme of nature on this year and use it in a way to produce different emotions from the viewer, using colour, subject matter, a variety of materials and the composition of different elements. I've found that emotions are intertwined with nature, so I feel as though connecting them through art would be fascinating.
